2025 AGF Bend Championships – Everything SBG Bend Competitors (and Supporters) Need to Know

The American Grappling Federation returns to Central Oregon on Saturday, April 26 2025 with the AGF Bend Championships at Obsidian Middle School in Redmond. Whether you’re an SBG athlete chasing gold, a hobbyist thinking about your first outing, or a teammate happy to coach‑corner and high‑five, here’s the low‑down.

Competing Is Optional—Support Is Mandatory

At SBG Bend we live One Tribe, One Vibe: competition is never required, but community support always is. Coach Brian and the competition crew will be mat‑side all day, yet classes the week before will focus on fundamentals as usual—no one gets left behind because they’re “not a competitor.”

Registration Deadlines

  • Mon Apr 14 – Normal registration ends
  • Mon Apr 21 11:59 PM – Late registration & competitor corrections close (last chance!)

Tournament‑Day Timeline (Sat Apr 26)

  • 7:30 AM – Doors & weigh‑ins open (gi not required for weigh‑ins). Kids have priority in line.
  • Adults may weigh in at 7:30 AM for this one‑day event.
  • Event runs until finals wrap (expect mid‑afternoon finish for most brackets).

Division Format & Key Rules

• Double‑elimination for normal divisions—lose once, you can still battle back for bronze. • Single‑elimination for Challenger divisions (bonus bracket by weight). • Kids & white belts: no jumping guard or below‑the‑waist submissions. • Full rulebook and allowed‑techniques PDF: AGF Rules Page

How SBG Bend Will Prep You

  • Competition Team; if you’ve been invited, keep coming to class.
  • Weight‑scale in the bathroom, make sure you’re in the right bracket.
  • Develop a game plan with Coach Brian to help fine‑tune your approach.

Not Competing? Come Cheer—Loudly, Not Coach

Spectator passes are $15 at the door. Throw on your SBG shirt, pack a small camp chair, and plan to flood the gym with positive energy—claps, whoops, and high‑fives are gold.

Quick FAQ

Do I need a coach present to compete? AGF allows solo competitors, but SBG always has at least one coach at each ring where our athletes are scheduled. What if I’m nervous? Totally normal. Grab any coach after class—they’ll share first‑tournament war stories and breathing tips. Can I change weight classes? Yes, via Smoothcomp until Apr 21 11:59 PM.

Ready? Decide if this is your moment. Register on Smoothcomp or simply tell a coach you’re coming to support. Either way, the tribe has your back.
